photo walk:: round

part photo walk (elise blaha inspired) and part teachable parenting moment. nyna was consumed with anger with her sister for deleting a tv program from the dvr. silly, maybe...but in the moment she could not see past her anger. so, enter a photo walk with mom to get some air and a little bit of a creative exercise.

the results below are what we captured. 

the last two photos were taken by nyna. i love how much she got into the project. we talked about looking at things from another perspective, like finding round things in our environment. i related it to life and how there are things that will make her mad but rather than stew about something that she can't change, try finding a way to release her anger, like going for a walk.

this was probably a five minute conversation. the rest of the time we played on the park structure, at the tennis courts and searched for things to take pictures of. she asked if we could do this again.

of course, we can!

the simple things:: weeks 21

This is the last school evening event of the year. I love that the PTA sponsors this creative function. It's one of our favorites to attend. Watching parents engage in the activities with their kids is one of the coolest things to see.

I truly believe that creative messes are the best.

time is on my mind

With an upcoming birthday, this concept of time has been on my mind as of late.

I want to soak in as much knowledge as possible.

I want to be fully present and engaged with my children, my husband, my extended family and my friends.

I want to make more of an effort to move more and eat healthy.

I want to live my life to the fullest.

This quote says so much about where I am right now.

My girls.

You can either find them laughing or arguing.

With only two weeks left of school, I'm already thinking about the amount of time they will be spending together. And as much as they enjoy each others company, there are moments that separation is in order.

But when they are truly getting along and I hear their laughter throughout the house, I get a little jealous that I didn't grow up with a sister.

Happy Tuesday!

I'm here to share the new CupCards {to go} kit called Pathways. This kit is so full of whimsical items from My Little Yellow Bicycle's Hello Spring, Bella Blvd's Sunshine & Happiness, and May Arts, I couldn't wait to break into it.

Here are a few of my contributions:

Those cute puffy bug stickers are simply adorable. I don't normally work with puffy stickers but as soon as my daughter laid her eyes on them, she immediately wanted me to create a few cards for her sweet little friends. That ribbon...is my FAVORITE!

This card has some simple layering, my favorite scallop punch, and a sweet little felt bird.

This last card has to be my favorite that I've created in a really long time. Super simple and do-able. I've been having some creativity blocks lately and this just seemed to fall into place.

simple scrapper:: may challenge layout

My girls were huge fans of the Disney TV Show Hannah Montana. With that said...I know many of those songs by heart. All lighthearted and fun. There is a particular song that they loved to listen to and I didn't mind when they had it on loop. The song is a message about being yourself and standing up for what you believe in.

The message itself is so near and dear to my heart. The last two years have brought us new topics to deal with, one of which is being inclusive and accepting of everyone's differences. I chose this song to create a layout about Nyna. Inspired by Ali Edwards and Brooke Starnes, I took the lyrics and typed them out on the kraft cardstock. I like that the words are center stage.

the simple things:: weeks 17, 18 and 19

week 17 - she was watering the grass one afternoon. in her jammies and her hair up in a bun, i caught a glimpse of the young woman that she's turning into. i felt a little lump in my throat. i think it was how her hair was falling. just right above her neck. no longer a little girl.

week 18 - my mom loves her garden. she tends to it every morning. there is something about her backyard that is so magical. i feel at peace everytime i walk through this space. it's home.

week 19 - when i pull into the garage these are the first things that i see. it makes me smile everytime.

april snapshots

i'm going to start off by saying that this was a hard month. i don't usually wish the days away but April...ugh...i'm so glad it's over! With that said, there are things worth looking back on and worth remembering.

April brought us:

• season premiere of Game of Thrones
• spring break (for dre and the girls)
• bowling, bowling, and more bowling
• easter service and lunch with the booker family (my parents, brother and nephew) 
• DRE'S NEW JOB (this deserves capitalization)
• 4th grade project on Rosa Parks - we called it "Everyone on the Bus"
• Instagram for Android users - i'm hooked:)
• lots of rainy days
• a new stove
• WITL Photo Documentation
• gymnastics spring fling
• new reads for me: The Scorch Trials and The Death Cure by James Dashner

In May, we're looking forward to a weekend get-away, watching the Avengers, a birthday celebration, and more time spent outdoors.
