Merry Christmas Eve

today we waited almost two hours to see Santa.

tonight we made our very first attempt at oatmeal/chocolate cookies for Santa. i think he's really going to like them.

 

tonight i will be wrapping gifts into the wee hours of the night.

Looking out my window...

While others have a snow...we have a family of Turkeys' on our front lawn. The fourth one is across the street somewhere. They are actually are large group. On my morning commute to work, I see this 'big' family by the golf course. Without fail...they are always there. They certainly make their rounds in the neighborhood and it's a great treat for the girls...whenever they get to see them. This is the first time that I have been able to get this close.  

My December Daily is coming along as well as I can manage. This season just seemed to come to fast for my liking. I am looking forward to a 3 day work week, then vacation for the rest of the month until the Jan. 4th. I can't wait! However, I do feel like I need more time to get some stuff around the house done. ::sigh:: 

Tomorrow is cookie baking day. 96 Russian Tea Cookies are on my agenda. My first attempt! Hoping for a good turn out:)

Winter Wonderland...

This morning we woke up to a little dusting of snow! We don't ever see this...well, i should clarify. The last time it snowed here was January 2002 and I don't remember it not one bit. So needless to say...we were simply amazed. We usually don't pay attention to the weather report but this was so special, we couldn't pass it up. The air even smelled different. 

What a wonderful way to start our morning. 

Countdown to Christmas!

Counting down to Christmas has begun at our house. These tags are a larger version of the mini tags that I made for my December Daily album. I was really going for a garland look with mini clothspins but it just didn't translate from my mind to my hands. I'm a little disappointed as I had the perfect spot in the house to hang them. But...i'll have to let it go for now. The tags are done...finally. I didn't think I would get them completed in time. To be honest, I almost gave up last night as I was getting tired and had to be up early for work. Now i'm glad I didn't. 

The idea of the cork board came from a Martha Stewart magazine. The board is from Target, which has been collecting dust in the closet for over a year. 

I used many of my favorite patterned papers from Daisy D's, October Afternoon, Basic Grey as well as my love for vintage buttons. 

 

I printed the numbers from the computer and added the stamp sentiments (October Afternoon) in my favorite colors from Ranger Ink. 

Now this hangs ready for the girls to countdown to the big day. I think i'm finally getting into the Christmas spirit.

December: I'm ready!

This year I have decided to go the super simple route with an 8x8 album, kraft cardstock, selected patterned papers of reds and yellows, and some carefully selected embellishments due in part to the Yesterday&Today class that I've been taking over at Big Picture Scrapbooking. I've been totally inspired to focus on photos&words and I really want to try and capture that in this album. Not to mention that with this new workplace I've started...i'm not really sure what our December will look like.

 

Well...I started the outer frame of the album this past weekend using up some of my older stash. The sheer Making Memories frame has been around here for awhile. It feels good to finally use it. I'll continue to work on the inner pages this week. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to number the pages ahead of time as I'm really liking the idea of a digital element for my numbers (similar to this or this or this.)

Over at Studio Calico, one of the members started a little support group so we can keep the momentum going throughout the month. I love reading people's ideas of how their going to document this experience. It's exciting to see it all unfold. And if you're looking for inspiration, you're going to definitely want to take a trip over to the December Daily flickr group.

Sweet Treats...

 

Taking a break from posting my December Daily. I need to get caught up on a few other things. Like baking some yummy goodies. The cookies above are from a talented person that I just found, Elise Blaha. She just inspires me so much. Lots of handmade goodness over there. I know where I'll be vising from now on.

 

These lovelies were for my oldest class party. Red velvet cake and magenta frosting (purely an accident). I was trying to make red frosting but it didn't quite turn out right. That's ok though. My girl still loved them. As you can see, I'm on a candy cane high right now. Which is too funny, because I don't really like candy canes.

Only one work day left and I'm off until January 5th. So happy! Now I have to brave the last minute shopping crowd to pick up a few presents and more baking goods for Christmas Eve.

December Daily {Day 6}

 

I know it's been a while. Been super busy with work and just life in general. I'm still keeping up with my journal. The 2nd week proved to be harder than I thought. Anyway, the photo above is my next entry. It' leaves off with journaling from my last post for Day 5.

We spent the day decorating the house outdoors. This is our first Christmas in this house and it felt good to really glam it up. I didn't have to many decorations. I think we may have forgotten some of it during  the move.

 

That evening the girls and their friends spent some time decorating snowflakes. They had so much fun digging into my stash of glitter and buttons. I cringed a little, but hey...I can always buy more, right? 

   

The page above are my girls. I connected the two pages with some jump rings and added a glittered snowflake from one of their creations. I have another page like this of their friends.

I'm truly having a wonderful time documenting this month. Some days we are super busy and then there are days where we can relax and take a deep breath. Hoping I'll have more time this week to post the next few days.
